Industrial Relations Office The industrial relations team is responsible for the MAX IV activities towards industry.
We are assisting industrial users and are actively promoting the facility towards different industry sectors together with our collaboration partners, such as universities, mediator companies and institutes. We are a team of six persons working closely with the beamline scientists, the Access & Collaborations group, management, and our external partners to create value for industry through the tools available at MAX IV.
MAX IV is seeking an Industrial Relations Scientist who will be responsible for managing industrial SAXS beamtime and supporting the industrial MX users.
We are developing our internal services as well as a strong network of partnerships that will help us guide Swedish and international companies to the experimental capabilities at MAX IV. We are engaging industry both directly through our offers at MAX IV and through external activities towards all relevant industry sectors in the Nordics. We are currently strengthening the management of our industrial service delivery with this new position.
Your main work tasks will be
- Plan and execute industrial beamtime at the CoSAXS beamline, supporting users throughout the entire process — from experimental setup and data collection to analysis and delivery of reports, ensuring well-prepared experiments and predictable, high-quality delivery.
- Develop new tools and workflows in collaboration with the CoSAXS beamline team, including improved sample environments, data-analysis tools, and result-summary formats to streamline experiments for industrial users.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for industrial users, maintaining day-to-day communication with the customer’s R&D representatives and ensuring that all experimental needs are clearly understood and efficiently supported. In this role, you collaborate with the Industrial Relations Officer, who manages the strategic dialogue with the customer’s organizational stakeholders. This coordination ensures that the operational execution you lead is fully aligned with the broader strategic context of the partnership.
- Support the delivery of industrial MX services for remote access users, including AutoMAX and FragMAX, contributing to a smooth and reliable experimental experience. In collaboration with the MX team, the aim is to reduce friction, address issues quickly, and help ensure consistently high customer satisfaction.
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- A Ph.D. in natural sciences or engineering, with a strong scientific background and specialization in biophysical characterization methods.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience working with large-scale research infrastructures (e.g., synchrotrons or neutron facilities) within the field of Small-Angle Scattering.
- Well-documented theoretical and practical expertise in SAXS, including BioSAXS and protein solution scattering.
- Professional experience from an industrial research environment or from academia with extensive industrial collaboration.
Below are seen as merits
- Experience in setting up and conducting SEC and SEC-SAXS experiments.
- Experience in automating and standardizing BioSAXS workflows, including the development of data-collection pipelines and user-friendly graphical interfaces.
- Proficiency in interpreting BioSAXS data, including familiarity with SAXS data-reduction programs.
- Experience working with macromolecular x-ray crystallography.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, as well as Unix-like operating systems.
As a person you are service-oriented, collaborative, and solution-focused, with a keen interest in guiding companies in their efforts to solve R&D challenges using the advanced research tools available at MAX IV. You communicate clearly and proactively, build trustful working relationships, and are attentive to customer needs throughout the experimental process. You work constructively under pressure, adapt quickly to changing conditions, and take pride in ensuring reliable delivery, smooth collaboration, and high customer satisfaction.
Probation period may apply.
